I’m encasing my Levothyroxine in a gelatine capsule to swallow, but could this cause absorption problems?

I find it easier to swallow the tiny Levothyroxine tablets if I put them inside an empty gelatine capsule, but I’m wondering if this is an ok thing to do, bearing in mind you are not meant to take them with food. Might this hinder the absorption of the Levothyroxine do you think? Would appreciate any information re this please? Many thanks for your time.

If it is having any effect I would imagine as you always take it this way then you will adjust your dose accordingly... continuity is key

Thankyou for your reply, yes I see what you mean, consistency and continuity when taking Levothyroxine. Only just started with the gelatine capsules 2 weeks ago. I will see what my next blood tests says in April.

Those tiny tablets get stuck in my throat when I take them in the middle of the night. This is the best time for me as I wake up then anyway, then ho back to sleep.

Depending on make, maybe you could consider breaking them up, adding some water and just swallowing that?

Before levothyroxine oral solutions became available, most, maybe all, levothyroxine tablets came with advice that you could grind tablets and add water to avoid swallowing problems.

Some makes, such as Aristo Vencamil, start to disintegrate the moment they get slightly damp.

Oh that’s a good idea, I hadn’t thought of doing that. I’ll try it!! Many thanks for replying!
