Hypothyroidism and Christmas school term

Hi, my daughter has hypothyroidism and she always seems to get overtired in the half term leading up to Christmas.

I know this is a busy time for kids in general so it could just be that, but I wondered if anyone has experience of this being linked to their child's hypothyroidism?

Thanks

Hi robandjanine

I’m not really familiar with managing hypothyroidism in a little/young person, but this time of year we are exposed to so many bugs, we see less sunlight which can muck up our circadian rhythm and if we have any vitamin deficiencies this can add to the mix, let alone other factors.

We can’t really comment on anything without a little more detail. How old she is, her diagnosis, does she have anything else going on health wise apart from hypothyroidism? We would be shooting blind offering any advice. Have a look at my bio - it’s anonymised but has lots of detail so if I wanted lived experience advice, the forum members could have a gander and give me an informed opinion. Just remember all advice comes from a place of lived experience. If you read my bio you will realise I trust the forum over any doctor or endocrinologist. Our trust in them is fine when things are ticking along nicely, it is only when things go wrong that their lack of knowledge is exposed. There are the odd good ones but they are the minority (as I found out).

If you have recent/last blood test WITH the range (numbers in brackets or

With a bit more info we can chat more with you.

Don't some people find they need a little higher dose of thyroid meds in the winter than on the summer? Could that be a factor? Have you ever compared her results from summer to winter?

But the autumn term is VERY tiring, and the run up to Christmas especially so. I taught in primary schools for 40 years and can confirm that! Plus my own 2 children and I were the same!

I wonder if age and stage could be a factor but with nothing more to go on it’s impossible to say much. Hopefully they will come back 🤗
