This is my first post and the thyroid affecting your eyes topic. Prompted me to speak out as my eye sight has faded over the past 10 years when I was first diagnosed. My mum is 80 years and she can see better than me... I understand smoking can increase the cause of eye disease!i!
Maybe it’s time I put the effort in to stop!!

Hi Alleyne2363 Yes, I'm having blurred vision in the morning and dry eyes. Also sensitive to light at times. Seems to have all come on since being diagnosed with a UAT.
I went to the opticians who did lots of test and said I'll need glasses. At 47, that's not unusual, but I certainly feel the condition has made it worse as I've always had good vision.
Thank you for your feedback, and sometimes I do have the same symptoms, but I'm currently on holiday in a stress free environment and my eyesight doesn't seem to be getting worse but need glasses to read mostly small print. Something I'm getting use to day by day.
Wishing the best moving forward, and always here with a listening ear 🙄
Smoking has an odd relationship to thyroid disease.
If you have Graves ?(hyperthyroid) then continuing to smoke increases the risk of developing Graves Orbitopathy. so stopping would be good.
On the other hand, stopping smoking is associated with developing autoimmune hypothyroidism (Hashimoto's /Ord's). this does seem to be true , as many on here first got ill after stopping smoking.
But if you already have Graves its very rare to also get Hashi's/ ord's , so stopping has to be better for Graves patients.
