Central hypo advice

Hello All

so, after 10 years, five miscarriages and the usual you're mad, Hypochrondriac, PTSD, depressed, making it all up routine finally - a diagnosis. Central Hypothyroidism and i am on 50mg of Levo. feeling so much better which is fantastic and also feeling more than a little vindicated. I am now under the care of an Endo

but just could use any advice anyone can give me please - the only reason I was diagnosed was by threatening my doc that I would buy thyroid online and self medicate which forced his hand to get me an endo appointment, who then gave me levo in the hope (i think) that it wouldn't make any difference and finally shut me up

needless to say it has been life changing! and when my levels remained normal rather than sending me hyper he finally sat up and took notice. But how do I know if I am getting the right dosage. like I say I feel much better than I did and I am no longer constantly exhausted, but not back to my best,

just had a pituitary scan and haven't had results yet but as my problems started after 4 miscarriages in 12 months i doubt that it will show up much I think my body was just completely overwhelmed.

should I have any other tests - hormones etc and any idea what levels of Levo i should be on

any help greatly appreciated

TIA

The only way you will know if you're on the right dose is to have your FT4 and FT3 tested. Obviously, TSH will tell you nothing.

Yes, you should be having other hormone tests, because the pituitary - if it is the pituitary at fault - makes several other hormones, and they could also be low. You'll find a list of them in this article:

endocrineweb.com/endocrinol...

No-one, not even an endo, can tell you what dose of levo you should be on - and don't let them try! You need what you need, so you should keep increasing every six weeks until you reach your sweet-spot, and you feel completely well. :)

Thank you so much for your reply greygoose, will check out the link, there does not seem to be so much info (that I can understand!) on central hypo and will get some hormone checks done. so difficult to trust an endo when you feel so badly let down by them for so long...

Yes, I know what you mean. But, you might find it difficult to get the necessary tests done privately.

Good idea to get your B12, ferritin and folate levels tested too. These can be low if you have a thyroid issue.
