Wowserclo,

Hashi's doesn't cause Rosacea. Stress, certain foods and alcohol can trigger flare ups of Rosacea. My sister is prescribed antibiotics when she has flare ups. google.co.uk/search?q=Rosac...

Do you think it will go? I don’t drink anymore so it must be the food, stress levels have been higher than they are at the mo

Wowserclo,

No, it's a chronic condition and likely to flare up at time of stress and illness but should be fine in between.

Interesting link to distruption in stomach acid with rosacea but don't know how reliable this article is as this is a private clinic's info.

I used to have rosacea. Medically diagnosed but pretty obvious. I diagnosed myself by reading an Oprah magazine at the supermarket checkout. Then I took my face to the doctor and asked 'is this rosacea?' 'yes'. (GRUMBLE BIG TIME: like excuse me but why not say something. No, just leave me like this for years and years. Doctors are so damn useless when a patient has to read bloody Oprah magazine to find out what's wrong.) It's gone now for years.

I was prescribed a cream that contained metronidazole. But (how can I stop this italics?) I think it had to do with lack of stomach acid (and probably a gut microbiome that was not right seeing as lack of stomach acid lets microbes go through that otherwise would get digested by stomach acid).

I was taking Ranitidine for several years because one of the medications I was taking would give me nausea otherwise. I stopped both and the rosacea cleared up gradually on its own. Nothing makes it flare up anymore. I drink alcohol, go out in the cold windy weather.... it's all fine. But, (very important) I always use moisturizer every morning and some evenings. It contains seabuckthorn which is supposed to be good for rosacea. Have no idea if I'd stop the moisturizer, would the rosacea flare up? <shrug> Not willing to experiment because I always use moisturizer anyway. And no soap, just a wet washcloth when I clean my face. Gotta keep the skin clean but not disrupt the natural bacteria/fungal ecosystem.

I've had rosacea for nearly 40 years. It first appeared when I was 15 or 16, but I couldn't get a formal diagnosis until my thirties, when I was prescribed metronidazole gel. It didn't help much at all.

What actually helped was self-treatment for pernicious anaemia - it is as hard, or even harder, to get this treated properly on the NHS as hypothyroidism. After a few months of frequently injecting methylcobalamin or hydroxocobalamin, I stopped getting the flares and the symptoms abated, though some redness and visible capillary leakage remained. In the past two months I haven't treated my PA very much, because I've been preoccupied with a succession of winter bugs, and the rosacea is flaring again for the first time in years.

I think I read that some vitamin Bs cause facial flushing. Might be worth researching if you’re supplementing. I have rosacea too. It’s just started again after a break of months . Not sure why! X

B3, niacin, is associated with flushing, but there is a non-flushing form available as niacinamide.

Thank you. I shall try using that instead.
