Piedo,

What's the point of taking thyroid support when you've had a total thyroidectomy?

If you post your recent thyroid results and ranges we can see whether you are optimally medicated or need a dose increase. It would be helpful if you post results and ranges for ferritin, vitamin D, B12 and folate too.

Clutter I asked not for myself but for a friend who has been hypo for years she still has her thyroid but is very unwell she is very overweight and has become diabetic she has been on 150-200 levo for years but dr has now dropped her to 100 because of surpressed TSH she asked my advice I just wanted to know if any other members had used nutracraft tyroAid

I have told her to ask for complete range of blood tests

Her fatigue is so great she barely leaves her house and is looking for anything that can help

Piedo,

Sounds like she is undermedicated and those sort of supplements are not going to help with that. She would be better off buying Levothyroxine and topping up her 100mcg if she can't persuade her GP to raise her dose.

Suppressed TSH doesn't mean overmedication as long as FT4 and FT3 are within range. Read Treatment Options in thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/about_... Email louise.roberts@thyroiduk.org if you would like a copy of the Pulse article to show your friend and her GP.

Pietro - no, tell her not to even consider it.

B12 - cyanocobalamin which is considered to be the wrong form, it's recommended to take methylcobalamin

Iodine - 150mcg and we shouldn't take iodine unless tested and found to be deficient

Magnesium oxide - one of the worst and least absorbable forms

Zinc oxide - commonly used in topical ointments (apparently a carcinogen in sunscreens), much better oral forms of zinc are available

Contains soy

Your friend would be far better off doing a full thyroid panel with vitamins and minerals from Blue Horizon or Medichecks and maybe a 24 hour saliva adrenal stress test to check cortisol and DHEA levels, to get a full picture of what is happening thyroid wise and supplement where necessary for any nutrient deficiencies.
