Thyroids removed.

I had Thyroid cancer, so my thyroids have been removed. I'm on 150mg ,tired all day, but can't sleep at night. I struggle with eating things like crust on bread & used to love meat but struggle with that too. Anyone else have these problems?

I think a lot of hypos go off meat. I know I did.

Do you have a copy of your last labs? If so, post them here - with ranges. Could be that you're under-medicated. :)

Hi thank you for your info. I'm waiting for results from my last blood tests, but I normally have my main tests when I have my yearly check up at the hospital, which isn't until July.

Also ask GP to check level of vitamin D, folate, ferritin & B12 if these have not been done recently

Common to be low & we need them at good levels for thyroid hormones to work

Have you had a recent blood test and I note you are on T4 only. You need a new blood test, make one for the earliest possible time and fasting (you can drink water). Also allow a gap of 24 hours between your last dose and the test and take it afterwards. You should take levo with one full glass of water on an empty stomach, which is usually when we get up. Some prefer a bedtime dose. In that case you'd miss this dose and take after blood test and dose at bedtime as usual.

Ask GP to test TSH, T4, T3, Free T4 and Free T3. Vitamin B12, Vit D, iron, ferritin and folate.

Get a print-out from the surgery, (we are entitled) and post on a new question for comments.

This is really helpful Thank you. I was never told any of this. I usually Take my tablets with enough water to swallow them with, then eat my breakfast and have coffee.

I have never been told to fast before my blood test. I've been having them for almost 7 years now. I thought the hospital would tell me if it needed to be different.

Very few medical personnel unless they have hypo themselves no nothing about how to get the best from our thyroid hormone replacements. In reality I think it is negligent to remove someone's thyroid gland and then not make absolute sure they are well on levo (which I doubt as you've no T3 at all).
