Hi, after finally being prescribed levothyroxine, I started on Sunday on 25micrograms, due to increase to 50 after one week. So I am on day 4, and have been feeling 'wired' since day 2. Racing heart, hyper, shaky and raised blood pressure. I have been feeling much clearer headed since taking it, but am worried I am reacting to drug as I feel quite weird. Do I need to rush to Dr, or will this get better? I googled side effects and have panicked myself now!
Am reluctant to rush to gp, as they won't have had the letter from endo yet and I don't feel like explaining the whole thing.
Some people do experience adverse reactions when they first start taking Levothyroxine. Symptoms usually resolve with a couple of weeks. It may be worth waiting until you are comfortable on 25mcg before raising to 50mcg.
Look out for allergy symtoms as well. The tablets have a lot of fillers in them but if you suspect that could be a problem take an antihistamine one hour before your medication and if thatcstops the problem then you look like having an allergy. Not a huge problem-apharmacyst should be able to advise a different brand until you find one that gives no symptoms.
But it's more likely your body is taking a bit of time to get used to it and some of us are more sensitive than others. Go stca pace you are comfortable with and if you are happy on 25 just introduce the next rise on alternated days to start off with.
