I've just been diagnosed with hyperthyroidism. It all seems scarey, whilst I'm in a very shakey state. Can anyone lighten me on this illness.

Hi Jazzy, welcome to the group. I was hyper with antibodies Graves Disease) two years ago and this group was what got me through it.
First of all if you have got the results of your blood tests it's worth posting them and people can have a look. Were you told that you have antibodies / Graves?
Did you have any other tests done - it benefits your thyroid if your vitamin D andB12, ferritin and folates are all well up in their ranges.
When I was diagnosed in November 2012 I was so hyper my GP started me off on antithyroid drugs
(20mcg carbimazole every day) and booked me in to see an endo and told me to have more bloods done in four weeks time.
Even though I had started on the antithyroid drugs I still felt pretty rough. It probably took about two months on that before the palpitations etc stopped and I felt a bit healthier, once I started on the Levo I felt a lot better although every time I needed it increased I felt a bit hyper again - I wasn't - it just felt like that. Some people are given beta blockers to stop the palpitations but because I'm asthmatic I couldn't take them so I had to sit it out until the carbimazole kicked in.
Things didn't change much in the four weeks and I got a letter from the endo - I wasn't due to meet my endo until late February, three months seemed to be the average waiting te back then. Anyway, my surgery and the hospital file share, my endo told me to double up my carbimazole to 40mcg a day. When I got to hospital at the end of February the bloods I had done the week before showed I had become hypo! At that point I added levothyroxine to the carbimazole, I started on 50 mcg a day and over almost a year I built up to 100mxg, then when my bloods were where the hospital wanted them to be I stopped both the carb and the Levo. That was in November 2013
After that I waited to see what happened - nothing. I'm still in remission two years on.
Some people never get levothyroxine - Levo and carbimazole together are known as block and replace - they start on a lower dose of carbimazole and just gradually decrease their dose.
I would say - read as much as you can about your condition, look at the ThyroidUK.org.uk website, you'll find loads of good information on there.
Make sure you get a copy of all your blood test results, ask questions - I used to take a little notebook with me and I wrote down any questions I had and I used to make a bullet pointed list of symptoms. ts better to keep symptoms brief when you speak to your endo - just go for the worst ones.
Don't expect too much from your endo visits - I almost always felt a bit deflated afterwards and I think that's quite common.
Sorry to ramble on, hopefully you will find something useful among my ramblings
Thanks for replying. This is all very new to me. Iv been ill for 8 weeks and only just had a blood test to check my thyroid. Tomorrow I am going to hospital to give two more blood test to check for anti bodies. I don't know anymore than that.
Good luck for tomorrow
make sure they test your iron levels too... another reason for 'shakiness'. Thyroid problems & vitamin deficiency are linked, ask for tests for B12/folate/ferritin/D3 too - all in the mix to feel better...

Sounds like a good cocktail. Thanks for your help. I hv written those things down to ask tomorrow . Thanks again.
Good luck today. I found that once I was diagnosed, even though I didn't see my endocrinologist for three months, I was treated straight away without any messing about. I'm sure they will get you sorted out as fast as they can. I think it's much easier to get the treatment you need if you are hyper.
That gives me a bit of confidence. Thanks
