Well I am hyperthyroid and I have the same as you, one minute thinking I'm going to get better and next minute thinking I'll never get better. I don't think we are going mad and yes the longer I sit here on my own the more depressed I am feeling. I'm only recently diagnosed after two years of being told I've got anxiety disorder and or depressed 😕😕

Thanks I'm only recently diagnosed myself, I had a bang on my head playing football nearly 4 months ago and keep going back till the doctor and they kept telling me it's post concussion symdrome. But there about 3 weeks ago I thought I was taking a heart attack and ended up in the hospital which ended up in them doing a blood test which came back overactive thyroid. Now I'm waiting till see the specialist and I'm on no meds at da minute as they seem till be making me worst. Do you have any recommendation on a diet or supplements that I could take in the meantime??

What drugs were you taking that seemed to be making you worse?

If you were given anti thyroid drugs - and you will only have been taking them since you were diagnosed as being hyper three weeks ago - you haven't been taking them for long enough to see results.

I wouldn't take supplements or anything at all until you see an endocrinologist. Although unless there is any reason not to prescribe them (asthma for a start) then your doctor could possibly give you beta blockers to calm down the palpitations. I'd get as much rest and sleep as you can. Don't try to do too much being hyperactive is actually quite serious.

When you do see one ask to have B12 vitamin D, ferritin and folates tested - if they are low then it would be worth supplementing but don't just randomly take supplements without knows that you need them - as well as full thyroid bloods although they might not test your T3. Make sure you get a copy of your teat results with their lab ranges.

I was on carbinzole 20mg twice daily and beta blocker 80mg twice daily I don't know which 1 was making me feel worst. I had extreme dizzyness, depression was worst and I had pain all over as if I was taking the flu. I think that my dose seem very high?? As I was told I'm only slightly over.

I started out on 20mcg carb with no problems even when it was increased to 40mcg a day I had no problems - apart from feeling awful because of the Graves' disease and I had to sit that out until the carb kicked in and lowered things. I've never taken beta blockers so I don't know anything about them.

Have you told your doctor you have stopped taking the medication? If not I would go back and tell him / her and go see what they think, I wouldn't want t stop medication for a hyperactive Thyroid.

Yes they know that I'm not taking any meds, it was them that suggested me to stop taking them because they could tell which 1 was making me worst. They keep going back to post concussion symdrome as being why I'm feeling so bad. In saying that I've been off all medication for a week now and I'm feeling a lot better. Can your thyroid get better on its on without medication??

It could be the post concussion. I've got an elderly friend who fell down her stairs one morning and knocked herself out. She had a dreadful time because the hospital decided that she had had a heart attack or a stroke or fainted or something along those lines - she on the other hand was completely and utterly convinced that whatever was wrong with her head had been caused by her fall, even though she kept telling them that she could remember stepping on her dressing gown and going headfirst down the stairs.

In the end they never found any evidence of heart problems and eventually after a very long time (over a year) she managed to have physiotherapy and her problem gradually disappeared but it was a very long slow business so perhaps your doctors are on the right track - I know my friend would have given anything for them to have examined her head and neck and said her problems were caused (as she thought) by concussion. Unfortunately her doctors were only prepared to deal with one area of her body at a time and unfortunately for her they decided it was a heart problem.

I'm not medically qualified so I don't know if your thyroid can get better on its own, but from my own experience I would think it could, I would say it is possibly because many years ago I was checked out to see if my thyroid was under active and my very surprised doctor said I was borderline overactive. I also had one or two periods in my life when I was able to lose huge amounts of weight, then when I became really ill a couple of years ago and I was found to have Graves I thought back and I'm sure i was probably hyper on and off for quite a few years before my body just went haywire butthat is purely my own personal opinion.

I'm glad you didn't decide to stop your medication yourself and I'm glad you are feeling a lot better now that you have stopped the meds. In view of my friend who was concussed, maybe their diagnosis of post concussion is correct and if they are it could take a while for your head to get back to how it used to be but in the meantime it sounds like you are being looked after be it for your thyroid or your concussion. It's still worth getting a copy of yr thyroid blood results though.

One of our occasional posters here runs a relevant site - for reasons that are clear when you read.

I suggest a look there could be helpful:

My Goodness, that is so sad.

I too suffered a bad head injury a few months ago, on top of all the other recently diagnosed diseases. I know it is not good to wish your life away, but I really wish that 2015 was over. 🙏

Thanks for link helvella.
