Thunder, lightening, lashing rain and 2 dogs barking & howling in concert to scare it off. Not restful!
Temperature has dropped so much the liquified coconut oil is solidifying.

lovely...
Spare, my admonishments to the mutts to Shut the F*** up! are merely adding to the noise. It's quiet at the moment but one of them is staring anxiously at the window. They detect far off rumbles long before I hear them.
Meanwhile my poor little doggy, Fizz (the best dog ever) now deaf/blind & recently with a failing heart, is oblivious if there was a storm - we haven't had the much-needed earthing yet in the Shire - she always used to bark & howl then perch herself mid-stairs - only time she growled.
Tonight curled up in her box, just asleep I hope.....
Of course my 'no pills' mantra went out the window - anything the vet thinks she needs is fine - after all the (feral) cat cost £500 - then decided to move house!
Perhaps the barking isn't as annoying now? J xxx
Spare, they were all barked and howled out by 3am and fell asleep. Their 17 yr old mum, Jenni, had a bad night too. She's deaf and blind but was very unsettled. I think they feel the electrical disturbance as well as hear and see it.
Cheeky and not very bright of the cat to clear off after you looked after him. I had a stray move in the day after BigTim died. He was such a mess I named him Barney Rubble. Took 3 days before he trusted me to touch him and I scooped him straight into the basket and had him to the vet who removed his few remaining teeth, his testicles, defleaed him and stitched his torn ears. He was really pleased to see me when I collected him. Nice cat but died about 6 months later.
I'm boiling hot but my arms are cold to the touch. How peculiar.
bleedin' animals tugging at your heart-strings, well, prepares us for worse... & worser...
I always noticed that - feeling hot yet arms/thighs cold - adversely when really cold arms/things absolutely freezing!
thought is was only me with the whale effect! (insulation)
Spare, I'm not used to having warm hands and feet, feels odd having them warm and other bits cold
OK - I've been having hot waves & palps again - went back to NDT for a month, since May (if I can remember correctly I wrote it down somewhere, so I didn't have to remember) last 2 days on Levo - no palps.. strange, still feel awful 'tho!
exhausted after today's fete - had to sit down/stand for 3 hours & actually talk to folk - knocked me out for an hour after.... hot...
then doing the BBQ for us 14.... bit tired now...
nite nite! J xxx
Aw, but think of all that nitrogen you are getting to replenish the earth Not fun for the doggies. It's a good thing you don't celebrate July 4th over there, they would have many fireworks to contend with. You don't, do you? Heavens no, you wouldn't, would you!
Heloise There will undoubtedly be a fireworks party tomorrow but probably not celebrating Independence. The mutts will have to bark and howl to make them go away too. It's quiet now apart from anxious whining from Teddy.
On 5th November, for over 400 years, we celebrate castrating, disembowelling and quartering Guy Fawkes body and banishing the remains to 4 distant areas of the lands, after his Catholic plot to blow up the King James in the Houses of Parliament failed.
You people really know how to hold on to a grudge. (I never knew why a Guy Fawkes Day.) Now I'm glad I never knew!
I thought he jumped from the gallows and broke his neck.
I always thought we were celebrating defiance - "penny for the Guy"
"V" is one of my fav films.
Spare, yes he did escape live castration and disembowelling by breaking his neck. They still quartered and scattered his body.
I used to watch 'V' on television. Reptile invaders taking over the earth. Big hair and shoulder pads
Aaargh! I spoke too soon. Flashing lightening, crashing thunder, barking dogs, not just mine now, neighbourhood dogs joining the fuss
I don't suppose ear plugs would work. Shouldn't someone come up with those? for dogs I mean.
The thunder just started here. I woke up to find my 2 in the kitchen barking at the rain. With piles of poo all over the kitchen floor! They never do that! I think the thunder really did scare the sh@t out of them! 😱
Good thing cats don't bark.
The 'big noise' around here came from the tree removal crew. There are 8 or 9 Ash trees that were killed by the Emerald Ash Borer. A couple of them were very big. vroom vroom chain saws and the diesel powered wood chipper. Good thing only one of the trees was directly in front here. And it was the small one. Started before 8 a.m., finished for the day at 4 p.m. They cut down 4 trees and removed dead branches from a couple of tall pine trees. Don't know which day they'll be back to finish the job, but they will be back.
There are more dead Ash in the ravine but those will just have to be dealt with by nature.
The cats were considerably unimpressed. They spent as much of the day as possible in the quietest place they could find.
Gabi, is there room for me in the quite place? The whining is irritating me now.
Sure thing Clutter: in the little Martha Stewart cat huts with the dangly fish in the doorway that are stuck into the IKEA shelving unit? I know you are not the biggest person on planet earth, although I'm not sure about your Cirque de Soleil potential. You could try. I'll make the video.
Gabi, I'll pass. Too gangly to neatly fold myself into compact spaces and being videod means wardrobe decisions, hair and makeup jobs. Can't be arrised
Hm, the little cat houses are warm and fluffy inside. No wardrobe required, not really.
You know those IKEA Expedit things? The cat houses fit nicely into each compartment so it's a kitty condo. Two cats on top in their baskets, two in their exclusive little houses. Oscar's fave is a sort of fluffy Moses basket that's on the floor near my hammock where he somehow manages to sleep and pose at the same time: Mr. Adorable soaking up the sunshine. Cat six sleeps on a feather pillow on the rocking chair. This is their favourite cat napping location for peaceful accomodation. You may fit the rocking chair.
Oh, can you post pictures of Mr. Adorable, gab? I'm actually on Ikea right now looking at my son's selections while he moves into a place in California.
Heloise, I'd need to get my daughter over here with her iPhone.
The sun set here a pinky red. What does that mean? I big round ball of pinky red. Not orange. Could that be the flavour of the air pollution?
Red skies at night, a sailor's delight.
That's all I got unless Saturn is sending messages. I'll google it.
It was in the bible.
Lovely red sunsets indicate high pressure and dry weather.
A lovely deep red sunrise can light up descending clouds coming in with a weather front coming from the west (sun rises in the east).
We used to say the poem using a shepard instead of a sailor, Heloise.
Flower007
I always enjoy the red sunsets and think of that. I think a sailor might appreciate it a bit more than a shepard though.
It's a beautiful sight by land or sea!
Poor dogs. What about rescue remedy for them - you can get a special animal version ( think its because the human version has brandy as its base) but I'm afraid in desperation I used the human one for one of my cats - I put it on his fur and he licked it off.
He was not impressed but I felt it helped, after that I bought a proper animal version for him - he always travelled very badly - pee, pooh and puke - no matter how far he was going, the vet is only two minutes round the corner, finally found a chattery that was only five minutes by car. I always ended up more traumatised than the cat, should have taken the rescue remedy myself really. Now there's a thought for you
I woke up with a massive rumble of thunder last night, in the middle of it all I heard a dog barking which made me wonder what time it was, looked at the clock to see it was only two minutes past midnight, it flashed and rumbled on for ages so I got up and closed all the windows to shut out the noise of the rain. Fortunately OH had cleared the drainage track out last week so we didn't have a garage full of water this morning - yay ☔️
Sun is out now.
I can sympathize clutter, I too had a whinge bag in my room last night, my gsd was shaking like a jelly and i woke up after terrible sleeps with him actually cosying up under the covers...not impressed. but a tiny bit cute for such a big dog.
Ahh peace restored - storm over 😊😊 woke in the early hours to a combination of the crashing of thunder, lights flashing , the pounding of rain and the dog hurling herself at the door downstairs in a mad panic......no barking!!! I was somewhat confused as was deeply asleep and couldn't quite work out what was going on for sometime!!
I just want to say thank you to you all for giving me a giggle. My cat doesnt seem to worry about thunder so I'm lucky.
I want thunder, lightening, and lashing rain, too!!! It's still so hot here I think I'm going to die! My dog is flat out on the kitchen tiles, panting and looking pathetic, but all the neighbourhood kids are fractious and niggley, screaming and having tantrums for nothing. I can't bear it anymore!!!
Have your tried playing soothing music for your dogs? I did have one dog that loved Brahms. In fact, when any record was put on, he'd rush intot he lounge and lie down on the carpet in front of the record player - it was a long time ago - with a blissful expression on his face.
I Don't know if Davro likes music, I never put much on, myself - although I do sing from time to time, but that's no test of good music! lol But we'll be finding that out on 14th July when the French celebrate Bastille Day.
Every town and village has its own firework display. My house is at the bottom of a steep cliff (they grow mushrooms in the caves below) and our fireworks are set off on the top of that cliff, in the courtyard of the chateau. They explode directly above my house. If you lean out of the window and look up, it's like looking into a shower of bright coloured sparks, like the rain has caught fire. And noise is deafening! And, I think to myself, at least I know it's freindly fire. 70 years or so ago, that would not have been the case. And I can just imagine how people felt when the town was being bombarded by enemy shell. It just doesn't bear thinking about...
So, this will be Davro's first 14th July. And I'm dreading it.
