Does being on Levothyroxine make you gain weight?
Levothyroxine: Does being on Levothyroxine make... - Thyroid UK
Levothyroxine
Being hypo makes you gain weight.
How much levo are you taking? How long have you been taking it? Do you have your latest blood test results, with ranges? More information would help us help you better.
Hugs, Grey
I've been on 100gms for a few years and each time I have my bloods done they are normal. My Dr said he would write to the Endocrinologist so I am waiting to hear back. I've never been given my blood test results.
If you wait for them to be given to you, you'll wait forever. Most doctors Don't like you having your results, but it is your legal right to have them. Just ask.
There's no such thing as 'normal' when we're talking about thyroid. When they say that, what they really mean is 'in range'. But just 'in range' is not the same as optimal. If your T3 is too low - either because your dose of Levo is too low (it's not very high!) or because you can't convert it correctly - then you will continue to put on weight.
Ask your doctor(s receptionist for a print-out of your last results. If she refuses for whatever reason, ask to see the practice manager. One way or another, they are obliged to give it to you.
It did with me. I was on it for 3.5 months and I grew very fat very quickly! Maybe as Grey says it was because I was undermedicated, I don't know.
I was n levo for 7 years and found it useless.
it has for me 4 stone however i find i cannot tolerate carbohydrates and when i cut these from my diet i loose weight
I heard it does I've been on it almost 7 months and I've lost 15lbs I pretty much lost what I gained
After reading your comments, I also have put on weight and have terrible pains in my back that are stopping me for leading a normal life I am nearly 48 and feel like an 80yr old please advise or help
Personally I stopped levo for 2 weeks prior to starting NDT! Levo is T4 alone and can linger for nearly 7 weeks! I started on a 1/4 grain and increased over a period of months, strangely I felt much better, even on a low dose.
