No only if you are hypo.

Hyperthyroidism and Graves can go into remission after a period of treatment, so no. If surgery or RAI subsequently results in the patient becoming hypothyroid then an exemption is allowed.

No, but if you regularly take other meds as well it might be worth looking at their annual prepayment arrangement - it explains it on this link nhs.uk/NHSEngland/Healthcos...

I have an exemption card. I am on block and replace. Ask at your surgery for the relevant form. I got the exemption card as soon as I went hyper.

We see this asked quite regularly. I think, in general, no. The requirement is that you are suffering from myxoedema. Always difficult to interpret if you are hypothyroid because of the anti-thyroid medicine you are taking! Certainly some do.

Hi. I too was under the impression that an exemption certificate was only available if you were hypo. However, when I started on block and replace , in february this year, the pharmacist at the hospital informed me that I should be exempt and advised me to ask my gp for a form. I did, he completed the form and the exemption card arrived within a couple of weeks. The card is valid for 5 years . It is definitely worth asking your gp.
