Trying to find a G.P who understands and takes me seriously. I have Hashimotos and have been trying to conceive for 3 years.

I have seen three different doctors , I don't feel that they have enough of an understanding about this condition. I know it's a long shot but I wondered if anybody could recommend an understanding and proactive G.P in the Peterborough-Cambridgeshire/Lincolnshire area. Thank you x

I am afraid you may need to consider travelling outside your area. It is hard enough to find anyone in UK - let alone specific areas. I can rec a private gp in London if you are prepared to travel

Can you post your recent blood tests with lab ref ranges?

Ideally TSH will be in the lower range of 0.4-2.00 with FT4 in the upper range to be able to conceive according to NICE guidelines cks.nice.org.uk/hypothyroid...

hypothyroidmom.com has articles on conception and pregnancy. Scroll down to the bottom for range of topics.

Thank you for replying. My last results were Tsh 2.66, the last Dr I saw said that she didn't believe the thyroid and fertility issue were connected!! I ask questions but never seem to get answers. I haven't really understood that does my results being out of range mean I can't get pregnant or it's not safe to be pregnant ???

That doctor is ignorant. There is a connection between fertility and hypothyroidism. This is a link of the interpretation of blood test results.

Has your doctor prescribed levothyroxine as you will have antibodies if you have Hashi's.? This is a link I think you will find helpful an excerpt:-

What Should You Do If You Have Hashimoto’s and You Want to Get Pregnant?

First of all, don’t assume your OB/Gyn or endocrinologist have any idea about this. Some do, but many do not, that’s the sad truth.

Secondly, visit this website: hypothyroidmom.com, this is a excellent site full of great information from a woman who has been through it.

Let me summarize her suggestions because they are brilliant:

It is possible that your fertility issue is unconnected to hypothyroidism but your GP is wrong when she says there is no connection between hypothyroidsm and fertility.

High TSH can make it more difficult to conceive and if you do conceive increases the risk of miscarriage. Print off the NICE guideline and put it in front of your GP. If she isn't confident of managing your hypothyroidism and pregnancy ask her to refer you to an endocrinologist.

Thyroxine needs to be increased by 25/50mcg above the level of meds which bring your TSH into the lower area of range throughout the pregnancy with 4 weekly blood tests to ensure good foetal development and avoid the risk of post partum thyrotoxicosis.

Good luck :)

Hi I'm from Peterborough. My GP is very proactive for getting me referrals & genuinely sympathetic towards Fertilty issues, particularly for those people who have autoimmune issues. dr Gilbert at Minster medical.
