I haven't, so can't really comment. Most CF clinics just fob you off with a pat on the head, no tests or treatment and a possible referral for CBT (cognitive behaviour therapy) or GET (exercise therapy). In my opinion, you'd be much better finding an endocrinologist or a good alternative therapist with an understanding of the endocrine system.

Yes i know and agree - i plan to cancel as i well know the nhs approach - that's why i self medicate. But i wanted to make absolutely sure this wasnt an exception to the nhs rule (wishful thinking)

This may not accord with your principals. This is what I would do - because it's exactly what I did. Don't cancel. You are part of a game that your GP and NHS want to play. Just play the game - then your GP can't turn round and tell you that you weren't prepared to engage or some other such nonsense.

Obviously, if they try to make you do exercise therapy that you aren't capable of doing then you should refuse, but I wasn't offered it.

Briefly - this is what happened to me (I don't live in London). I was referred by my GP to our "ME" specialist in May last year. The appointment was at our local hospital and was a joke. The specialist wasn't interested in my history, didn't examine me, didn't order any tests. He then sent an unsigned letter to my GP saying I had ME. He offered me a referral to the ME clinic which I accepted as I thought it would sound odd to refuse.

At the first appointment the lady introduced herself and immediately asked me "What did you think of Dr R?". She said all his letters were the same, she didn't think he wrote them and mine was unsigned. She went on to explain that "the advertised multi-disciplinary team" was in fact just her and she only worked 3 days a week.

I never went again as I was too ill to attend the apointments.

The service has now closed. They wrote to all their clients - I wrote back saying that "I for one won't mourn it's passing". I then advised them to screen their clients properly for thyroid and adrenal issues.

thank you very much Rosetrees for your honest and forthright opinion of ME an CF clinics in the NHS it highlights the pitfalls that we thyroid sufferers encounter In the NHS maze and thank you for the advice on how to play the game

My gp is useless and already knows i don't play the game. Frankly, now that I have self medicated myself back to health (virtually) i quite enjoy being a thorn in the side of the NHS. I particularly like pointing out time and again how i CORRECTLY self diagnosed coeliac, pernicious anaemia and hypochlorydia when they fobbed me off :-)
