Boots tea tree witch hazel stick is pretty good. You have to catch it as you feel the lump appearing and a slight sensation below the skin. Use a few times on the same spot and it prevents it developing. I use the 'night' section of the stick often across my whole chin if I feel it happening late at night. Its a cheap remedy as well. It doesn't always work but if I catch it in time, it does.

I have terrible skin-even now i'm in my 40's! Think this is due to my Hypo, but anyway.....

I get a small tub of Sudocrem, empty half of it out, heat the rest up in the microwave till it melts, and add 10 drops of tea tree oil, 10 lavender oil, 5 chamomile and 5 frankincense, stir it all up and let it reset. I use this on my spots at night and in the morning ( although it needs rubbing in as it's white!) and is better than any over the counter thing. I use a lot of essentail oils anyway so have a good selection, but tea tree and lavender are easily available and are two essentials. Best of luck.

My two teenagers use sudocream, and it's quite effective, I might give your method ago and see if we can improve on it.

Thanks for the tip.

I'm currently using Simple's anti-blemish moisturiser twice a day and I think it's really good. Also, I'd recommend using only warm water to wash your face in the morning, and face wash at night, otherwise you can strip your skin too much and it makes things worse.

I use the oil cleansing method, which is very gentle, contains no petrochemicals, fragrance etc, it doesn't strip your skin, it's cheap and smells nice. I use olive oil but you can use almond or whatever and if you have oily skin it's meant to be good to add in some castor oil, which can be hard to get in shops but you can buy it online from a certain large warehouse company known for avoiding tax. :-) theoilcleansingmethod.com/

I have also heard good things about the aspirin mask (in addition to liking simple things I am also very cheap). beautybanter.com/diy-aspiri...

I've been using oil for about four or five years and I was recently given a box of Neals' Yard products as a gift. I tried using them for a while but I had to stop. I'm not troubled much by acne but I have apparently developed super-sensitive skin and I find even fancy/natural cleansers make my face itch.

Also, if you can tolerate lavender oil, it is anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory. You could try putting a drop in the cleansing oil if you like. I've used it with great success for many itchy/sore/red skin problems. It's particularly good for that sore nose you get when you have a cold. For many people, acne-prone skin is easily inflamed and sensitive, and must be treated gently.

Good luck!

I am pleased to say that I do not get many spots now; I had boils on my face from the age of 18 to 45 - I now know that these were a result of hypothyroidism.

I am qualified in aromatherapy and so make up some of my creams myself. I also use lavender oil and tea-tree, neat on my face and then use moisturiser afterwards. Lavender is also brilliant for cuts and burns. I make my own soaps and find these really good for my skin.

Generally the above two oils are safe for use neat on the skin but this assumes normal skin.

Castor oil, calendula, rose hip and hemp oil are good oils. Hemp oil is good for eczema and I add it to aqueous cream for my husband to use.
