I have IBSC and it has made me worse too. I have increased my fibogel from half a sache to 1 a day. But still struggling. I am fed up of going back and forth to the doc but suppose I will have to. I am told that atorvastatin is the genteralist you can get. So can't imagine what else they can do.

YES! It gave me really painful outer leg muscles which at first I took as being my ME. But the pain didn’t go away no matter how long I stayed in bed (tried 3 days!).

Then I read the side effects and spoke to my doctor.

We tried Simvastatin with similar results and then a third one which made me weak, and I could hardly scrape up the energy to do anything but after a week or so of stopping taking it I returned to my ‘normal’.

Statins can seriously harm your kidneys even fatally so do not pass off side effects - read the leaflet that comes with them.

I will not take statins any more and will have to be a lot more restrictive in my diet (like I need more restrictions! 😳) because the statins were making me ill.

yes. I had to stop taking it. My bowels were so loose I could not leave the house and I am usually constipated. Then I tried Pravaststin which gave me terrible pains in my limbs. I decided not to take any more statins as my cholesterol has never been high. I have found turmeric to be as good an anti-coagulant as prescribed medicines: 500mg x 3 daily.

hi, when I first started my statins, I went into a flare of my inflammatory bowel disease, I had horrendous diahorrea. I had to stop the statins until everything settled down. I then some months later started the statins again slowly and it was a little rocky at first but then I have settled down to my normal. I think statins are not good for IBS and inflammatory bowel disease unfortunately. I would get advice from your GP. Hope this helps

I couldn’t take Atorvastatin or Rosuvastatin. The GP then put me on Pravastatin which after about a week I have been as ok as possible with Ibs!
