I was prescribed Sertraline for anxiety - which is related to IBS (see below) and that worked well for the anxiety symptoms, but didn't really affect the diarrhoea & anal leakage.
Due to various issues in my life, and that the Sertraline was making me feel generally unwell my GP has changed me to Mirtrazine. Mirtrazine has been a life-changer in that it has lifted my depression, reduced my anxiety issues to almost zero, and stopped the diarrhoea (but not the leakage).
I'm also having 'light touch' therapy for the anxiety - which is also helping enormously with the IBS.
It's well documented that anxiety is strongly related to IBS in many people. I am one of them. Unfortunately there is a core of people who don't want to accept a psychological explanation because they think it's easier to change their diet than deal with the way they think, or to take medication associated with psychiatric illness. There is definitely a gut-brain axis.
