Lansaprozole is a prescription drug for acid reflux rather than IBS.

Im on lansaprozole a number of years now and its a ppi proton pump inhibitor for stomach acid. Initially I was prescribed it for a few weeks and after several years I'm still on them doc and consultant just keep writing prescriptions every month. My advice to anyone is to avoid ppis altogether if possible.

I agree with you Grish. I was on PPI's for many years and have found out they caused problems with my gall bladder as I was on them so long. I now only take Gaviscon Advance after dinner and 1 spoon at night . Came off PPI'S over a year ago. It was hard work but I was determined not to give in. This is the best I have felt for a long time but waiting for gall bladder removal.

I was on this for reflux, but came off it as it sent my blood sugar up!

I was prescribed Lansoprazole for erosive gastritis which in turn was caused by Naproxen prescribed for back pain. I eventually weaned myself off the Lansoprazole, very slowly. I now have IBS D and am suspicious that the Lansoprazole caused this, although it may be a consequence of the gastritis or the anxiety all this caused. I would say stay off PPIs if you can.

I'm on Lansoprozole and have been for a few years. I was suffering badly with reflux and indigestion. These didn't cause my gallstones my gallstones influenced my reflux. Not sure why but there you go. I think sometimes these are falsely prescribed and not necessary for some but more of "here's another pill, off you go!!!" Just to let you think they're helping you. Please don't think I'm brushing these drugs off lightly as some people do need them as a means to protect your stomach while taking strong pain relief or other erosive medications.
