hi just wondering if anyone eats a Chinese takeaway with there ibs if so what is best to order i dont want a big meal just something small to order with my partner and any other general food options as I'm only eating toast plain chicken breast and mashed or new potatoes for the past 12 weeks and as to be expected im getting sick but at the same time im so afraid to try anything I'm currently undiagnosed but I really do think ibs is the cause so any food ideas or what things people actually eat would be really helpful thanks
Chinese takeaway/food: hi just wondering if... - IBS Network
Chinese takeaway/food
I haven't had a Chinese in over 6 years I'm avoiding it as I have no idea if they'd put garlic or onion in the sauces. I tend to try to make my own Chinese dishes but it's not the same really.
Speak to your doctor to get a diagnosis of IBS - it's not healthy only eating the food you've listed. You'll get malnutrition.
Good luck x
As Kweh123 says, you should get a diagnosis. That having been said, I don't have chinese a lot but would probably go for a chicken chow mein, if it was me. I'm no worse with that than anything else.
thanks for your feedback im waiting for answers atm I've had a colonoscopy its just now that ibd has been ruled out ibs is really only thing that seems to fit given the eating situation im having also i usually only order chicken chow main from the Chinese I wasn't going to go wild with that just thought maybe try some boiled rice with some chicken or something
What were the white spots, were they ulcers. I'm sure until your biopsies come back they can't rule anything out.
I've not had Chinese food now for about 10 months, last time was a chinese buffet before last Christmas with work. I didn't eat a lot but I reacted to it within hours. I think it must be the oils they cook with to be honest. I did used to love Chinese food but I have to be very careful hense not eating it since then.
Hi,
Difficult to know the ingredients of some dishes - and garlic will be involved in most!
I’d go for boiled rice, not fried, then consult the FODMAP list of foods to check what you can.
Usually, plain is best, and avoid onions, garlic, mushrooms and other high FODMAP foods.
Hope that helps!
Chow mein seems to be ok. But i only have about half of it, and no extras like chips or prawn crackers.
I used to love eating Chinese food. Lately I found that the sauce used in chilli beef seems to start a reaction with my digestion, it seems to trigger off some cramp and abdo pain . I have tried it a few times and I had the same reaction therefore this is a dish I avoid. Not all Chinese food are bad. If in doubt only try a little , your body will tell you what to avoid after all we are all different .
thanks for your feedback I've only ordered boiled rice and chow main noodles just the noodles and bean sprouts and soy sauce only had a little of both just hoping im ok
How was it? Were you okay after eating it?!
hi I really did only have a little of it i was ok after I wasn't on the loo however the smorning I have been to the loo I've been 4 times today not in agony some pain but non the less still to the loo so don't think I will be trying it again it was nice to have something different and with taste for a change lol
I haven't had any problem with Chinese food but then I don't suffer from ongoing bowel inflammation and don't have definite trigggers. But eating too much can be a trigger I usually have chicken and pineapple with egg fried rice - that's OK if you are OK with pineapple, but not everyone is. You arne't eating any fruit and veg at the moment, which could lead to problems, but people have said that stewed apple (try the big cooking apples, they have more flavour) with all the skin and core stuff removed, is good and doesn't irritate. You can also boil and mash carrots with your mashed potato. I hope the doctors find out what is causing your inflammation and you have a good way forward ...
I have to avoid bean sprouts. They basically come out whole, still colored. Pretty gross, but true.
Hi, I have literally spoke to doctor today after suffering for over a year wondering what the heck was going on. I’ve been more mindful of what I’m eating, eliminating certain foods and reintroducing them. I love chinese oh man! But I’ve had to keep away from overly spicy or garlicky meals. I tend to go for special fried rice. I tried the gravy but it can be quick rich sometimes, so just plain and ask them to have it separate to just cut it out altogether and maybe just had a tablespoon of it over the top. Soups seem to be ok, chicken noodle is good. Gone are the days of adventure when it comes to food. Although I have food sushi fine. I’m buy it in the supermarket or our local Japanese takeaway. Just stay away from wasabi. Fun fun fun.
