I have a suspected ulcer, the doctor has prescribed Omeprazole... I’m very weary and anxious of meds. Can anyone put my mind at rest?

I have been taking 20mg Omeprazole every day for the last 20 years, I was also a guinea pig on the original trials, before they could prescribe it. I have never had a problem, although you should avoid the sun whilst taking it. Good luck and stay safe.

Better to get a confirmation of ulcer with a H. Pylori stool test. If you have not got an ulcer, there is no point in taking extra meds. Talk with your doctor. I was going to be put on strong antibiotics for suspected ulcer and never had one!

Good idea to have this test, though H. Pylori is not the only cause of ulcers (though, apparently, the most common). Of course, if you do have H. Pylori, then you would need a course of antibiotics to remove it.

I’m with FRreedman on Omeprazole. Proton inhibitors don’t usually cause significant problems, and there are quite a few to choose from if a particular one doesn’t suit.

Omeprazole is very safe and the correct medication to be on, however, for an ulcer they should stool test and if positive put you on antibiotics. Omeprazole on it's own inhibits stomach acid production, so no reflux or heartburn!
