Hi,
Has anyone tried Synbiotics to help treat slow transit constipation?
Hi,
Has anyone tried Synbiotics to help treat slow transit constipation?
The only brand I have seen using that term is Seed. I am on my third pack. It works, especially at first. My colon is extra long and redundant and may have some nerve damage from b12 deficiency and insufficiency over the past 25 years, so my experience is affected by that.
I have never heard of synbiotics. Will have to google it. Let us know how it works for you. I have slow Transit Constipation and weak pelvic floor.
Mine is weak-sauce too.
What is weak-sauce? Sorry.
Not a medical term! Just a made-up one by a friend of mine. Like, "Oh, that dryer is weak-sauce. It never gets my clothes dry." My colon is slow and sluggish. Does not get the job done. Pelvic floor is like, "I can't do all the work."
The thing that works the very best for me is magnesium citrate. There is a brand called Calm that makes a flavored powder to put in water. There's also a brand called Oxy-Powder made by Global Healing in Texas (U.S.).
If you were taking senna for a year you may have become dependent on it. Are you still taking it? I have tried to stay away from stimulant lax because our bodies become dependent. I had a GI doctor once tell me that eventually I might have to take them, though.
Yes. I have been taking it for 13 years. I have heard about Natural Calm.. Magnesium citrate but have no idea when and how much to take it. Or if it would be strong enough for me. I'm on Psychiatric medication..I asked Doctor if I could take Magnesium. She said no. I don't know why. It might even help my insomnia.
What about if you have something that includes Senna in the form of a tea bag. Something called Slimatee, have you heard of these? Ingredients are frangula bark, Senna leaves, hibiscus flowers, Darjeeling black tea, peppermint, goldenrod, mate tea. Apparently because the Senna is only the second ingredient it’s not a lot. This really helps me but I try not to use them, only if I’m really bunged up, so every couple of months I drink 1 cup for 2-3 nights and it usually clears me out.. has anyone heard of these or anything similar (if you’re in the states?..
We have Smooth Move herbal tea in the U.S., and yes it works bc of the sienna and it's not as habit forming bc it's less senna than a capsule would be. I may be buying some this weekend, as I ran out a while back.
Thank you that’s really good to know. Do you take it often? Can your bowels become dependent on this amount?
No. Not on this amount. Many people are on Senna everyday. 4 tablets in am and 4 tablets in pm. Which is max. I take 8 tablets every Saturday night along with Colace stool softeners. Colace doesn't really help me have a movement. Just keep my stools from becoming impacted and hard. The slimatee poster talking about every few months is very little and won't cause dependency.
Thank you so much Eliana5 that is really reassuring for me. I hope you find a solution soon! Have you ever thought about surgery?
There is no surgery out there to help chronic constipation unfortunately.

Hi Eliana5, please take a look at this digestivedistress.com/const...
There are definitely surgery options out there, but I’m not sure if this is purely just for treating constipation. I also suffer with stress incontinence (weak bladder) due to weak Pelvic floor and my gynaecologist told me there are surgical options. I’ve only just found this out from my appointment via telephone call (due to lockdown) but thought it’s worth mentioning to you. I know you suffer with a very weak pelvic floor also. Do you have bladder problems too, or is yours just Constipation? I have a 45% prolapse (rectocele) due to the Constipation. Apparently I have “slow gut motility”. It would be interesting to hear your story
I don't think that is sold here. Only the Senna or Senokot tablets and Pico Dulcolax liquid..as far as stimulants. And the yucky Miralax.
Miralax is Evil.
Yes..it sure is.
Why do you guys feel miralax is awful? Also, I discovered a great drug called Motegrity, prescribed by my GI dr.
There is a black box warning on it..or at least there was. Doctor's prescribe it like candy..even to Children which I don't agree with. Makes my stools messy and sticky gel like. It seems more like a stool softener to me instead of a laxative. Hate the smell of it..a glue like smell. But maybe it's just me. If it helps others than that is good.
Is Motegrity the same as Resolor? Is it Prucalopride? I have thought about looking into it. Thanks for writing. ☺🌹
