I know coffee is a diuretic, but I also know from personal experience that some brands are terrible for my guts and others aren't so bad. Perhaps it's the same with caffeine/decaffeinated

Its not just the caffeine there are some other things in all coffee that cause ibs upsets, it makes your stomach produce more acid I think. I put coconut oil in mine and it helps sometimes, just don't drink it on an empty stomach or first thing in the morning or you will be running to the loo.

Might be different for other people though.

I quit coffee for over a year and did have improvements with my bowels - also went full on the Fodmap diet. It was the hardest thing ever, especially when others brought coffee to work, I could smell it a mile away. My mornings consisted of peppermint or chamomile tea or occasional chai tea I never stopped longing for coffee

When I wasn't in a flare After over a years time, I decided to have a few sips.... now I drink it again, but limit to just one cup, I use the Kurig and use the size with the most water so I get a pretty big cup and it doesn't taste watered down, even tho it is. I use coffee mate which is a lactose free powdered creamer and it seems to help cover coat the acid

I don't think it's the actual caffeine that is the acidic part, but caffeine is a stimulant and this can cause the pipes to get overactive especially if you have the diarreaha form in IBS

Maybe decaf will work great for you, less caffeine to stimulate the system and you still get that wonderful coffee taste
