Hi, I used to suffer really badly with anxiety, changed my diet, ate only real food, plenty of veg like spinach, no processed i.e. bread/sugar/pasta etc, eat at least 2-3 tablespoons of coconut oil everyday, make sure you use himalayan pink salt, no table salt. It will take about 2 weeks for your body to adjust, but the anxiety just disappeared. Try it and stick with it, don't forget, your gut is your second brain!!! Good luck

A self hypnosis course helped me - ibsaudioprogram100.com - maybe give it a try? It's a 100 day course and cost me around £60 I think. You listen to it every day in specific ways given and consists of 3 cd's

You can have an anti anxiety tablet prescribed by your GP, the most common one used for people with IBS is Amitriptylene. This comes in different doses, so if he prescribes and not much different, ask for the dose to be increased. Also Buscopan can settle your tummy, try take it as soon as you feel it becoming unsettled. I take two when I feel my tummy going and this can often calm it down again.

Buscopan is an anti-spasmodic which means it helps calm the cramps associated with IBS, periods and even gallstones (I can vouch for the last one as it helped me immensely with gallstone pain before I had it removed last year.) I just wish it was around when I was first diagnosed with IBS over 15 years ago.

The problem with IBS and anxiety is, you get anxious about your IBS which makes the IBS worse, which increases your anxiety and you end up in a never-ending vicious circle between the two :(

I agree with the others, please see your GP who may assist you in treating one or both or give you pointers in how you can self help

I suffer awfully from anxiety which of course makes your ibs worse.. This is probably the hardest part of the condition for me.. When I have tried therapies I tend to get agitated as they are designed to provide coping mechanisms such as breathing techniques when having a panic attack etc.. Unfortunately me being impatient assumes they should be providing me with some sort of cure that will stop the anxiety and make it not happen so frequently not just teach me how to deal with it... I have opted for self help since.. There are a number of free apps on smart phones which I use.. These are relaxation and hypnotherapy apps and there is one ibs specific one ! They send me straight to sleep most of the time and provide a calm atmosphere ! Good luck x
