Has anyone tired VSL#3? And if so how soon did you start noticing an improvement? Has anyone got it on prescription?

I tried it recently and found it very effective. I used it as part of my strategy to come off PPI's. I bought a months supply and took 1/2 a sachet a day. I read some reports that a full dose can be too strong. In any event I found that within a couple of days my stomach felt more comfortable and settled. It is one of the probiotics referred to in Prof Hunters excellent book IBS solutions. As far as I am aware it cannot be prescribed for IBS . It is quite expensive but certainly for me it was worth it. I now take Bio Kult which I find suits me.

Thank you for this - I have found that a whole sachet is too strong too. I've been told that it can only be prescribed for pouchitis (whatever that is).

It is the most effective probiotic available in the market. You can also try renewlife critical care since both of them temporarily alleviate ibs symptoms I would suggest you to take Lactobacillus LP299v which is the only strain proven to cure ibs. It has been shown to provide exceptional ability to provide digestive and protective support with strong adhesion and growth within the gut. These organisms seem to be able to reverse some of the pathology and associated symptoms in even severe conditions, such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).

Very interesting - where can I get this Lactobacillus strain from?

I tried it and it helped somewhat although the effects wearoff after 10 days.

It's expenisve and only available on prescription for for discrete diseases such as Crohns.

If you buy get it direct from VSL and they send it in a cool box, this isn't guarnteed with other sources meaning the bacteria get activated in transit an die.

Fundamentally I used it to get a respite from symptoms but it's wasn't along term solution for me.

I didn't know about transit being in a cool box. makes sense - though I'd not seen this referred to. Thank you.
