I've only been on the Fodmap diet for 5 days and my IBS feels so much worse.I'm going to the toilet more not D but the more I go the worse I
I am 5 weeks into the low FODMAP diet elimination phase and my symptoms only started to get consistently better around week 4. I also experienced significant flare up in my first couple of weeks (although my main issue was C). Keep with it. According to my dietician, it takes a full six weeks of living low FODMAP/FODMAP-free for your digestive system to rid itself of FODMAPs and begin building healthy flora back up. Hang in there. Know you're not alone.
I agree with CdnSara - keep going - it worked for me!
Yes do persevere it is worth it in the end . I have been on it for 10 months now including gluten free and lactose free as a basic diet. I can have small quantities of most things now but it has changed my lid completely after 26 years of suffering. FODMAPS is in no way a quick fix but with perseverance can help some people.
Good luck
Thank you all for your help,I will stick with it as I've tried everything else. Its just that I am so fed up of feeling unwell.I have quite a few more medical problems some a lot more serious though I don't want to go into that or I'll be here all day.But IBS is so debilitating and makes me feel so unwell as it's a daily battle.Thank you for reading this.Rant over.
I gave up on the Fodmap diet after 4 weeks no change whatsoever. Actually I fell off it more accurately. But it did have some things listed as being able to have as much as I like, e.g. grapes, which I know are bad reaction for me. Am currently waiting (ages) to see gastro man again to get other intolerance tests then hopefully back to the dietician.
I have IBS-C and while low FODMAPS reduced pain, constipation got worse. So started reintroducing foods (pea soup, regular bread) and pain came back!!! So I'm taking it one day at a time! Good luck to you.
For what it's worth, on FODMAPS my constipation improved only marginally. But my bloating is at least 75% improved since starting and I'm generally in less pain and discomfort (this Sunday will be six weeks on the diet for me). I totally understand your frustration. And, as sashapet pointed out, FODMAP is not a quick fix. From my perspective though, it was worth a shot. I'm still trucking along on the diet and feeling better.
I would suggest you to start using digestive repair capsule or intestinew powder alongside of FODMAP diet to get rid of intolerance and other stomach issues more quickly. You can mail me if you want other options : ashu.malhotra11hotmail.com
Thank you all for your replies, fingers crossed it works,2wks in now.Yesterday after some advise on this site ,I bought Professor John Hunters IBS solutions .And I must say to me it makes more sense than any Dr I've seen so along with that and the low Fodmap diet I've got a bit more hope .I think drsachdeva recommended it,anyway I would like to ask drsachdeva what she means by using a digestive repair capsule or a intestinew powder ?
