Does anyone have a diagnosis of SIBO - and if so what treatment are you having?

I don't have the diagnosis but I went for the test. I asked if it was positive what the consultant would do and I was told prescribe a course of antibiotics.

I asked my gastro consultant today about it - and he is reluctant to try the antibiotic route without further expert opinion. I get the idea that it's not too common in the UK. On SIBO.com there are warnings that it all comes back once the meds stops. Then it gets complicated. I'd be interested to know what happens to you.

I was tested & had extremely high levels of sibo, went on the antibiotic, when finished started taking heavy doses of probiotics & followed low fodmap diet. I did re test & sibo was gone. Did pretty good for about 6months & then symptoms started again, but we have found that I have some other issues going on. I think most people that treat for sibo don't go on special diet to not feed the bacteria & it can go wrong there. The testing is cheaper here where I live in portland oregon @ naturopathic college. The antibiotic is super expensive. You can check with Canada Pharmacy or get with naturopathic dr & get natural antibiotics. Which I did, & they worked.

Thank you for this info. I've heard that the problem is that it comes back and that ongoing low dose antibiotics are needed. It doesn't seem to be a very exact science - but then neither is anything to do with IBS!

Yes very true, but most people that have it come back, aren't taking probiotics & staying on special diet. And the sibo robs you of all nutrients, it's not a good thing. I have had hair loss & joint problems because of it. So you definitely wouldn't want to go undiagnosed with it either...
