Hi all - Just began my treatment for LTBI with Isoniazid and have been very confused about the suggested diet changes. My doctor didn’t mention anything but I read it on the leaflet from my pharmacist. I see it is recommended to have a diet low in tyramine and histamine but can’t seem to get a consistent list of what I can and cannot eat. Clear things to avoid include tuna, aged cheeses and meats, and fermented foods like soy sauce. However, after lots of online research I’m left really confused about whether I can have yogurt, mozzarella, spinach, tomato, citrus fruits, bananas, avocados, eggplant, sour cream, among others that have been listed as ok and things to avoid. I’m left struggling to know what to eat and want to ensure I have a high nutrient diet to be as well as possible during this process. I appreciate any guidance.

Diet changes with Isoniazid
I was on treatment for active TB and wasn’t given any advice on foods I shouldn’t eat!
Perhaps have a look at:

It just says to avoid alcohol.
It seems that the most important thing is to have a balanced diet, exercise and to avoid alcohol.
Hi Lupines, please go with the information in the patient information leaflet. This flags up anything you need to be concerned about. Interactions with certain foods are possible but uncommon. The important thing is to keep a note of how you feel and what side effects, if any, you are experiencing. If you do experience side effects you should discuss these with your nurse and together you will be able to work out what you can do to reduce themBest wishes,
Helen
Definitely avoid alcohol.
Also try to avoid aged cheese. All the rest you can have but try not eat them at the same time with your medication (allow 2-3 hours to pass).
