I was diagnosed a week ago with pulmonary TB. I had had some pain in my chest when I was breathing, although that subsided to just a feeling eventually. I was pretty tired and my appetite wasn't quite normal, but other than that I felt ok. I am not on Rifafour and I'm wondering if it is the meds that are giving me various aches and twinges? I have one in my lower back, ribs on the other side to where the TB was, back, head, kidney area. I don't know if it's just because I"m suddenly so tuned into how I feel that I'm worrying about everything. The other main worry I have is that they got the diagnosis wrong as I wasn't able to do a sputum sample as I don't have any. It was from the CT scan and bloods that they made the diagnosis. I feel like I have more aches in my chest than I had before I went in. It's hard to know as I"m in Thailand (I"m British) and the doctor has not given me much information.

New TB diagnosis - aches and pains normal?
Hi I also experience the body aches and its been 5 months now taking the medication. It might be dehydration or anxiety please speak to your doctor and rememeber to drink plenty of water
Hi askessing,
It is quite normal to experience the side effects you describe to your TB medication, but it is always worth discussing them with your doctor - not least because they may be able to prescribe something to help.
With regards to the accuracy of the diagnosis - a positive blood test and CT scan is pretty conclusive - even without sputum. Some people may not produce enough sputum whilst others may have trouble coughing it up, so other tests are used in this instance.
The important thing is that you should start to feel relief from your TB symptoms in the next few days.
Best of luck,
Helen
