Help to start eating disorder clinic/centre

Hi if anyone could help me with regards to how I set up my own business for eating disorders I would much appreciate it. I am a dietitian that has a postgraduate degree in eating disorders and have had anorexia at age 11 that wants to help others. I live in wales and there still is no eating disorder service. Any advice would be most appreciated xx

Suggest you contact BEAT or ABC - talk to them about what you could do alongside current projects they are involved in - get the contacts and move on. Good luck.

If I was you I would set up an anorexia meals on wheels type of service whereby you deliver meals or help prep a meal to recovering anorexics and sit with them whilst they eat their meals this would mean they could stay in their own home where you could support them instead of them going into inpatients where they may compete with other people suffering from AN

also inpatient places seem to be thin on the ground esp for older people

Hi Jess. Not sure what you mean by 'no ED service in Wales'. There are well established community teams for eating disorders within CAMHS and adults (albeit the latter can be thinner on the ground in some areas). There are no ED units within Wales however there are ED beds for CAMHS within the two generic units (in South and North Wales). For adults requiring inpatient stays unfortunately this continues to be out of county beyond medical stabilisation.

Regarding your own business I am sure you have a lot of skills and experience to offer. Perhaps working within an established team could be useful. Beat also have volunteering opportunities on occasions or even patient advocacy? Lots of options. Good luck!
