There's an age limit on recovery

"im sorry we can't help you with your eating disorder as you are over the age limit and you are managing to live a "normal" life "

Can't afford inpatient treatment and don't want to have to give up work as it is my reason to exist.

Are there really no support groups, nothing for people 28 in London?

Surely society hasn't deemed is too old to help?

Unbelievable - This is totally mind blowing - to be told your over the age limit at 28!!! Suggest you contact ABC and see if they can support you - also inform them of what you've been told - also BEAT (and if you've the energy - your MP - as I think to say at 28 they won't treat you falls well out side the new NICE guidelines - not that they are worth the paper their written on without Gov funding). You could also go back to your GP - and tell them - but do contact ABC as they have a support line and befrienders who can help. Good luck.

That's what I thought but I contacted about the befrienders and I don't fit the category as I'm not in a stage of recovery.

I saw a dietician today. He told me the psych waiting list is 6 months and I should get a hobby...

Not a great response - but at least its honest about 6 months - try contacting BEAT - sorry ABC couldn't help.

Go to OA or ABA. Look them up. You will find meetings all over London. It works like Alcoholics Anonimous with the 12 steps. And you are not alone anymore. It works and I highly recommend it. You don't have to have any belief to be part of the meetings. It's free - small donation (whatever you can give, a pound is fine - and you will meet people with your same thoughts and compulsions and fears and loneliness. Try at least 5 or 6 meetings and then you'll know whether it's for you or not.
