My daughter as had bulimia for over 12 years sadly we are going through a really difficult time at the minute in the last 7 weeks she as been admitted to hospital with low potassium 4 times i seriously cannot understand why there only interested in getting her potassium level back up then discharging her surely they can see how poorly she is. She as been turned down for funding which we are fighting at the minute but it just seems that there is not enough help out there for people with ed i am so worried does any one know if there are any self help group in manchester that do not charge extreme amount thank you and god bless every one who suffers with this awful illness and all the families that also suffer and feeling helpless.

Hello

I sympathise with your situation. It sounds like a difficult time. I don't know if this will help or not but but it's a perspective I've realised during my own recovery...

I agree fixing her potassium levels and discharging her must be worrying for you but the difficulty with eating disorders is that they are not just problems that cause symptoms. ..physical, mental, emotional, medical problems because the whole thing in its entirety is a symptom. An ed is a symptom, a coping mechanism and the behaviours involved are desperately hard to break free from because I now know from experience that all the stuff you were trying to forget or push away or deny or not hear your head telling you comes back to haunt you when you give up your control or ed ways. And that makes it tempting to use old trusted ways to cope...better the devil you know kinda thing.

Taking your daughter into hospital might break the habits or cycle for a while but relapse is likely. If you can support your daughter or find her some help of some sort, in time she might try to break the cycle. But she has to do it, show signs of trying to or wanting to recover. Ideally in time seek help herself. I doubt she will open up to you unfortunately...I think ed's develop where the sufferer has no other means of or feels they have no support like I said it's a coping mechanism....a sort if attempt at self sufficiency I suppose. Attempting to do that without your ed to cope is seemingly impossible. I know because I'm attempting it and it's not going particularly well right now but I've come a long way.

This is just the start of your daughters journey...

Hope that helps in some way

Good luck
