Why were spinhalers discontinued?
When I was first diagnosed with asthma, back in the late 1960s, I was put on medication called
Intal
Co. It came in the form of a dry powder contained within clear orange and white capsules (called spincaps).

very worried about next cons app
I explained about
intal
and being on only a starter does. She said that increasing to the standard dose would make no difference. I tried asking about the LABA's . she said you were on seretide before. This is a very good drug. No inhaler will make any difference.

How to approach GP
I was discharged from the cons with a list of things to try (
Intal
, Atrovent etc) but nothing has really made a huge difference. My GP/asthma nurse admit that they are out of my depth but being referred has only been mentioned/not acted upon which is something else I need to discuss.

Two steps forward and one back
Today I received the letter from the hospital which should have given my GP a list of things to try (Flixotide for extra ICS during exacerbations,
Intal
, possible referral to immunologists for desensitisation but my history of anaphylaxis may prevent this or consider Theophylline which has constantly

Doc visit after attack?
I take Flixotide, Montelukast and
Intal
(all medications had been correctly taken, including an extra puff of
Intal
prior to the run, and a dose of Salbutamol too as the air was slightly cold). Normally this would be fine.

Confused and tired of no help from doctors
I have been on
Intal
previously and that worked but i am trying to get another method of taking it such as spin inhaler or nebulizer as the inhaler always cloggs up and i have had 2 fail on me preiously. I have mentioned this to my gp and said no others are available - i don't believe him.

i am thinking about coming off steroids, of course doctor will have final say, but if i do i prefer to use

Intal - clogging problem
A question for the 'elite' of
Intal
users on here - anyone had a problem with sudden clogging? Mine aren't lasting two weeks as they're meant to as they keep clogging up and nothing comes out.

UK equivalent to Aarane?
I googled and apparently the only equivalent to Aarane is
Intal
, which is discontinued now? I was wondering where would I get an inhaler now that works with me? It's useless to have the standard blue one with me cos it doesn't do the trick. I'm running out of Aarane and not sure what to do...

Stuck in same place (slight rant alert!)
My asthma is acting up for no good reason that I can see, unless it's missing 5 days of
Intal
due to various errors on my and surgery's part, plus one day of Montelukast which led to a rather nasty day last Friday with copious amounts of blue and nearly ringing OOH, but then I figured they wouldn't be

Does anyone here use
Intal
- it's an older drug but we're trying it in any vain hope to keep off the smarties. :) I've just started it and I'm struggling a bit with it - wondered if this was normal and if I'll get used to it - the pharmasist said not to use a spacer which I do for my other inhalers
