adrenal glands not working
Hi all. just after a little bit of info. My daughter had a synthacten test last week and yesterday her consultant rang me to tell me that unfortunately the test showed that her adrenal glands were not working as well as they should be. My daughter has now got to have a supply of hydrocortisone on standby

What are the steroid shape changes?
I am currently in week 6 of a hospital admission for an exacerbation which just isn't settling, despite continuous iv salbutamol etc etc. Throughout this time I've been receiving 100mg iv hydrocortisone four times a day, and every attempt to drop the dose has destabilised the asthma. Unsuprisingly,

referral & theophylline
I recently saw my gp as after two week-long pred courses I was still having a hard time with my asthma, with constant severe attacks that come on very quickly. My doctor was going to prescribe me theophylline after explaining that I was already on max meds (confusion point number 1), but decided not

Steroid induced diabetes
Hi Have been on pred for about 16 months, never getting below 20mg and due to frequent hospital admissions have had a fair amount of iv hydrocortisone. I randomly check my urine (as you do) and yesterday for the first time I had 2 plus glucose. Am off to docs on Monday but as I have no other classic

Adrenal Function - Help me understand please
I'm hoping someone help can help me understand - I'm feeling pretty scared right now. :( I've been on long-term steroids (Pred) for years. Things are finally getting better with the Omalizumab so I've been weaning the Pred. Got down to 5mg from 40mg, my consultant wanted me to have a Synacthen test

Adrenal Insufficency
Hi All, I am new to this forum, was looking for anyone who might have any experience dealing with adrenal insufficency after long term steroid use? My asthma is poorly controlled, I currently take: Seretide 250 (2, twice a day) Flixotide 250 (4, twice a day) Singulair 10mg (2 at night) Phyllicontin

Lady problems & asthma/addisons
Does anyone else find their chest gets worse before their period is due? I've never really noticed any issues before but since being diagnosed with Addisons have been more aware of feeling I'll & needing more nebs as my chest is playing up. I know there are a few people who use this site who have both

How much Pred do you take?
I have noticed over the years that people take different amounts of Pred for exacerbations and wondered what the maximum effective dose would be. My son who is 14 has never taken more than 40mg, whether the Gp has prescribed it because he is starting to dip or when he's been in hospital needing IV's

Hi, I’m new here and relatively new to asthma. I just had a few questions that I hoped someone would be able to answer. I had asthma as a child and as far as I know it was well controlled and one of those things that I just grew out of. I am now 19 and 2 years ago I moved into university accommodation

Adrenal Insufficiency?
Hello, I know a lot of us on here are steroid-dependent for asthma control, but I was wondering if anyone else had become completely steroid dependent physiologically? I had the short synacthen test, and the results were bad. I then had the long synacthen test, and as a result of that, i've been told

Pred and hydrocortisone??
Been told today that our little girl (aged 2) is going onto a daily maintenance dose of Pred. We were also given a very quick demo and vague explanation of an additional hydrocortisone injection she may need if in an accident or if she has a vomiting bug for example. Thing is I'm confused. Not about

Asthma but no wheeze
Hi I had a bit of a scary experience yesteday with my asthma (I'm alright now) and I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts. I had an attack in chemistry at school which ended up with the ambulance being called and me ending up in A&E. I wasn't given salbutamol nebs as I'd already had well over 10

Hi there Does anyone with asthma suffer from incredibly dry skin? My eyelids are sometimes so itchy it's unbearable - although when I take my preventer regularly the problem seems to disappear. the problem is primarily on my face, although I have two nasty patches of excema (which I have suffered

adrenal insufficiency following long-term steroids
Thanks to long-term oral steroids, my adrenal glands function at about 5% of normal output and therefore I have to take hydrocortisone. However getting the balance right between sufficient cortisol intake & trying to ""wake up"" my adrenal glands is difficult. I often experience extreme fatigue (don't

Hi I am new user - be gentle with me!! I have had asthma since age of 12 or so when it was more allergy based then and I thought I had grown out of it as I had no real breathing issues with allergies for years. At the age of 36 I had a persistent cough and was treated for chest infection. It never
