Fingolimod

I struggled on with fingolimod until during a routine appointment with my neurologist tecfidera was suggested. I started on tecfidera in 2022 and am still on it now .

Instead they are only covering its generic form, fingolimod. Have any of you transitioned from Gilenya to fingolimod and if so, how are you doing and how do you feel? Has it produced any untoward reactions? Would love your feedback. Thank you all and be well.

Standard FDA-approved medications for MS (for example interferons, glatiramer acetate, fingolimod) have not been proven useful in slowing the progression of PPMS. Ocrelizumab is the first FDA-approved medicine for primary progressive MS. It appears to slow the progression of disability.

Some MS therapies, including steroids and disease-modifying therapies like Lemtrada (alemtuzumab), Tysabri (natalizumab), and Gilenya (fingolimod), are associated with diminished effectiveness of vaccines and a risk of infection as well.

Been on Copaxone, Rebif, then began in the clinical trial for Fingolimod... Began taking Gilenya (aka Fingolimod) as soon as it was approved by FDA for release.

At the time, I was still on the open-label portion of the Fingolimod trial. I found a neurologist that was at the same stage in the trial, in San Francisco UCSF . It was an hour's drive, but doable.

Food and Drug Administration has approved the expansion of the use of the oral MS therapy Gilenya® (fingolimod, Novartis AG) to include the treatment of children and adolescents 10 years of age or older with relapsing MS.

Serum NfL levels were higher for patients starting natalizumab and rituximab compared with those starting interferon, glatiramer acetate, and fingolimod. The levels decreased over time with all of these treatments.
