Has anyone with SS tried methotrexate ... - Sweet's Syndrome UK
Has anyone with SS tried methotrexate for joint pain and stiffness? If so, how long did it take to work.
Hi erinstiver,
Methotrexate is an uncommon treatment for SS, so there isn't that much mention of it in the medical literature. I'll leave a message on the Sweet's Syndrome UK FB group to see if anyone has been given it. facebook.com/groups/sweetss...
Here's some general info about methotrexate including how long it takes to work in people with arthritis (3-12 weeks): arthritisresearchuk.org/art...
I have taken MTX since 2001 for Sweet's Syndrome both to calm down the immune system and for the joint pain and stiffness. I can honestly recommend it to anyone. My dose is 10mg once weekly and monthly bloods. I have suffered no skin lesions since I started it. It was recommended to me by Professor Peter von den Driesch in Stuttart although I live in England. Fortunately my team at Southmead Hospital in Bristol decided to go with the MTX rather than cyclosporin. I also have a brilliant dermatologist at Taunton Hospital calle Dr Pryce who first diagnosed me in 1999. I am surprised that more people with Sweet's are not prescribed MTX rather than steroids which I believe do far more long-term harm (just my opinion). Am quite willing to talk to anyone about my condition if it helps.
Thanks for the replies!
