Does having arthritis and chronic pain make it more likely I will experience anxiety & depression?

If you think the answer is yes you are not on your own. A recent survey of people with arthritis asked that question, and the results show that people with arthritis are much more likely to experience both anxiety and depression, particularly if they were in pain a lot. Having arthritis can be tough and people with arthritis need support.

The results mean there are a lot of people out there who might benefit from support that helps with anxiety and depression as well as their pain. Movement and being active helps all of these things, so its another reason to Start Moving. People who were active experienced much lower rates. Does this situation sound familiar to you? You are not alone so feel free to share your experiences here.

My answer would be yes. My rt knee has bothered me for years, finally forcing me to retire from my nursing job a yr ago. I’ve spent the last yr working on my health, diet, wt, exercise. Now, pain is nonexistent except when winter weather cold front coming in. What I am discovering is my moods are so much better and Im wanting to get out, do social things, etc. I can only explain that I must have been more depressed than I thought as now I feel like a “ new me” and Im loving it.
