I do visit the hospital and talk to my doctor for specific health information related to my arthritis or BP. Additionally, I gain a lot of information from the various communities of Health Unlocked. I also visit the website of the Mayo Clinic which I think is upfront and honest in giving information about ailments and treatment.
Mainly use my GP and the internet for information about my conditions. I also like the community here on Health Unlocked
Hi Calvin, apart from the usual information given by my physiotherapist my main source of information has been either at the aqua aerobics classes or by reading about other peoples problems and how they overcame them. I always feel we should look at a problem we have and either think of a solution or find out the solution. There isn't always an answer of course but I have found that many of my problems can be overcome even if I do not always like the solution. For instance I use a stick, which I hate, but it definitely helps me to keep my posture and to cross roads, go down steps and generally walk around more safely. I also hire a mobility scooter when on holiday or shopping so that I am no longer tied to the house.
I use the internet a lot. When my knee was bad I used kneepainexplained.com and sites in other countries, where exercise is used more. The chiropractor I eventually saw also explained what was wrong. The communities on Health Unlocked have also been helpful.
I tend to use the INTERNET but try to stick to "proper" sites NHS sites are somewhat limited in the information they give while mayo and livestrong are refreshingly upfront in their information and don't softsoap any issues. Of course healthunlocked is very good.
Online, at Mayo Clinic, specialist Fibromylagia sites and Health Unlocked, which I visit most days.
When I was diagnosed, first by a private Rheumatologist, then by an NHS rheumy, both directed me to the web for information. The NHS Rheumy directed me to an American university site.
My treatment, such as it is, I've devised myself using info I've found online.
Haven't seen a GP in almost 2 years, waste of time and in the past I've either been misdiagnosed or given treatment that made me worse.
Hence I have very little faith in GPs.
I get a lot of info online, I have my knee atrhritis going in the right direction with wt loss and activity. Im really glad this site encourages activity as too many dont and push surgery and or drugs as the only answer. I am also helped alot by the a fib community here.
Internet and Facebook groups can be useful information sites. I did my paid holistic medicine course online and attended many free summits online and these were the most useful for me. NHS websites and the Mayo Clinic are the least useful. Conventional medicine is so corrupt!
I am online reading etc everyday.
My sources for health information comes from a variety of sources including the internet, friends, and school. I take such information with a grain of salt as I've seen health professionals disagree with each other.
Often I search for health information- i do Health Unlocked and various other sites. With my knee, I learned about my condition from my orthopaedic surgeon, and also talk to my doctor quite often.
doctor occcasionaly once ever two months internet first about 3 times a week
I always ask my Dr but then post on Health Unlocked. Here I find there are so many people with experience that there is often some form of treatment that may not be available locally which would suit me better.
My main sources of information would be from healthcare professionals - my GP; Rheumatologist; Physio/Hydrotherapist followed by experiences of fellow sufferers on Health Unlocked. I also find a lot of information from trusted online health websites.
