Dear Start Moving Community Members,

Welcome to our weekly "Start Moving" community post, an in-depth post every Monday.

Thanks to your participation, we have now grown to 500 members! Thank you for joining and welcome, we are very happy that to be moving through this health journey together.

Our "Start Moving" community is part of "Movement is Life", an initiative that supports people with joint pain and the connected challenges of diabetes, obesity, heart disease, and depression.

"Movement is Life" helps people face these health challenges together. Many wonderful community leaders and organizations are part of "Movement is Life". These include wellness experts, patients, church leaders, physiotherapists, nurses, doctors, and politicians. Everyone agrees - if you start moving you can start living better. Movement is the key to the most common health challenges facing us all.

Each November the "Movement is Life" initiative meets for an annual conference. This event features a wide variety of health experts and commentators interested in joint health and health disparities. Over the next few weeks we will be featuring some of these speakers in special weekly Movement Monday posts.

During February we will be featuring articles and videos about these inspiring speakers from the conference, including:

-A look at The Girl Trek initiative, encouraging everyone to walk for 30 minutes each day.

-Health expert David Ansell, who explains how some communities come to be less healthy than others and how that can be fixed.

-Rose Gonzalez, PhD, MPS, RN talks about why knowing your BMI (Body Mass Index) is so important.

-Rev. Dr. W. Franklyn Richardson discusses why faith-based health activities are so important.

Have you introduced yourself to the community yet?

Participating in the Start Moving community means you are taking control of your health. There are several ways to participate in the community:

-Tell people how you are having a bad day or a good day, or just say hi :-)

-Ask any health related question - someone has probably experienced the same challenges as you and will have helpful insights.

-Ask people

where they find their motivation and resilience.

-Read other posts and then tell people that you understand what they are going through. Sometimes people don't want advice so much as wanting to feel heard.

-Remember to "like" other posts and replies when you find the information helpful

-When you have a minute why not simply say "hi I'm new", introduce yourself, and describe your health situation and whatever is your biggest challenge? You will definitely get a reply or three!
