If you can reduce your weight you will feel much better and your surgery will be safer. Moving and exercising to the degree you can may be painful but you are not ding any harm and reducing you weight by itself will alleviate some of your pain. Your recovery from surgery will also be easier and safer.
Good luck and best wishes.
Cathairmom, I know this is a difficult situation for you. Hard to lose weight when you can't move because your knees hurt. Do you have access to a pool? Simply walking/moving in the water can help increase your metabolism. Making small changes in your diet WILL help. Do you take any over the counter medications for your knee pain (aleve, Tylenol)? Taking such pain meds could help you do some activity like using a stationary bike or getting in the pool. PLEASE keep us posted on your progress. You are still young with many years ahead and you want to enjoy them!
Hit the reset button each day. Begin practicing mindfulness in what you eat...make the best choice in the moment. Start walking...10 minute increments at first. Each pound you lose takes 4lbs of pressure off the knees. Research shows with 10-11lbs of weight loss you can reduce your pain by 50%.
Exercise is not at all necessary for weight loss in fact it’s much more important to just reduce the amount of calories you eat!
Although weight loss is helpful it’s important to improve strength as well that is where the exercise come soon!
