Hi - looking for help/advice for my daughter (21). She has a pain in the lower leg at the side of the shin. Keen runner. Started after wearing uncomfortable shoes to an outdoor event on cold hard surface for several hours. Shed also run 10k around then (pavements). Initially suspected shin splints. Has been resting it for 7 weeks and there's no improvement. It's exacerbated by walking, even short distances. Doctor unhelpful, hasn't diagnosed, just suggests rest. X-ray showed nothing. It's completely disrupted her life - no running, minimal walking. She's able to cycle to get around. Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.

No, there's mo knee pain.
UPDATE - after 12 months there's no change in her condition. However, she does have a diagnosis - bone stress - following an MRI scan. Extended resting hasn't improved things. She's seeing various consultants. We had go private to get her seen properly, but they've referred her back to the NHS. At least she's 'in the system' now. I'd be grateful to hear from anyone who's suffered a similar condition.
