Another melanoma diagnosed super-early due to our MASCED training programme! Thank you Michelle Weaving @bellavidamua for sharing your melanoma journey…

“In June 2019 I was studying beauty therapy at college and came across the Skcin charity on Instagram with their MASCED (Melanoma and Skin Cancer Early Detection) training. The training was really informative and an extra reassurance for anyone I may perform treatments on in the future.

Four years later whilst enjoying a day at the beach, I noticed that a large mole on my arm (that I had had for as long as I can remember) was looking different. It appeared to have dry skin in the middle and the colour had changed very slightly. We thought it could have been a spot but when it didn’t clear up I decided to be safe and get it checked by the GP.

Within 2 weeks I was seen at Dermatology at the hospital, they felt it was OK, gave me some cream to try and an appointment 2 weeks later just to be safe. At the follow up appointment the consultant decided to remove the mole due to some redness. My mole came back as being stage 0 (the earliest stage of Melanoma) which thankfully had been fully removed. I had a second procedure done to ensure that all of the cancer cells had been removed and then given the all clear.

Thanks to the training I had done through the Skcin charity, my melanoma was caught early, dealt with quickly and could have saved my life! The consultant said they see a lot of people who are advised by hair and beauty workers to get checked so this training is really making a difference and saving lives, I will be forever thankful to the Skcin Charity”.
