‼ With the heatwave building over the weekend and into next week, the UV Index is VERY HIGH and it will take less time for your skin to burn!
‼ Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the UK and worldwide - 1 in 5 of us will develop it in the UK and a whopping 90% of cases are caused by ultraviolet radiation (UVR)!
‼ Remember, damage from UV is cumulative and irreparable and burning is strongly linked to the development of melanoma.
Here’s our top tips to enjoying the sun safely:
☀ Cover up with clothing, covering as much skin as possible.
☀ Wear a wide brimmed hat and quality sunglasses.
☀ Sunscreen - apply SPF 30 (adults) SPF 50 (children) with 5 star UVA protection to all exposed skin.
☀ Apply sunscreen liberally and evenly 20 minutes before venturing outdoors.
☀ Reapply suncreen AT LEAST every 2 hours (more often if perspiring and always straight after swimming).
☀ Make sure your sunscreen is in date! Look for the open jar symbol that will contain a number (i.e. 12 M) that’s the number of months you can safely use the sunscreen after opening.
☀ Keep sunscreen out of the heat! If it gets hot the ingredients will break down and lose their efficacy.
☀ Shade from the sun whenever possible and avoid direct sun exposure between 11am and 3pm.
‼ Take extra care to protect children who’s delicate skin is highly susceptible to sun damage.
