šŸŒ»Super proud to launch our new Sun Safe Schools website today all ready for primary schools on their return from the Easter Break and warmer weather!šŸ‘

First launched in 2013, our annual Sun Safe Schools national accreditation programme was developed by Skcin to provide primary schools with all the tools, resources, advice and support they need to assist them in their duty of care to safeguard children against UV and prevent skin cancer through education.

After a decade of lobbying and consultations, we are so proud that sun safety education is finally on the PHSE Curriculum - and even prouder to already have in place a robust, national solution, already used and LOVED by thousands of schools nationwide.

With a massive increase in demand due to the new statutory guidance, our new website features lots of new, bespoke educational resources to introduce sun safe messaging to reception age children and develop their knowledge of UV and the importance of sun safety throughout primary education.

We have also developed a comprehensive year 6 specific leavers programme and graduation certificate to ensure children leave primary education with a clear understanding of: Solar energy, UV light and the benefits and dangers of the sun ā€¢ About the skin, its structure and how UV light can damage our skin and eyes ā€¢ How we should protect our skin and eyes from UV exposure and prevent skin cancer from developing in later life.

To gain their annual Sun Safe Schools Accreditation, schools must complete a 4 step process, providing evidence/feedback, following completion of each step. Extensive resources have been provided to help schools achieve each step effectively and efficiently, with maximum impact and confidence and with minimum strain on valuable time and resources.

By completing their accreditation schools can confidently provide evidence of their commitment to:

PROTECTION: Providing an environment that enables children and staff to stay safe in the sun.

EDUCATION: Learning about sun safety to increase knowledge and influence behaviour.

COLLABORATION: Working with parents, the management structure and the wider community to reinforce awareness about sun safety.

This programme means the WORLD to us, we know this is the best way to prevent skin cancer for our future generations and combat statistics head on!
