Halaven (Erubulin): has anyone been on... - SHARE Metastatic ...
Halaven (Erubulin)
Yes. I had 12 infusions of it in 2015-2016. It was very easy for me. Really did not have side effects. Could go to the gym the following day with no problem and my hair started to regrow after losing it from a much stronger drug.
Greetings! My wife was on Enhertu from Jan to June and then Eribulin from June to Dec last year, her fifth and sixth lines of treatment in the past seven years.
Both the Enhertu and Eribulin worked as far as shrinking tumors and lowering 15-3 markers (4200 to 2100 to 1800 and eventually down to low 200s, lowest in 2+ years) but it was a rough year in terms of side effects and other complications. Five hospitalizations for weeks each time, lost over 100 lbs, had a lot of GI issues on Enhertu, and is now dealing with neuropathy in hands and feet from Eribulin, among other effects. But it was working, so she stayed on it until Dec when we switched to Gemzar/Gemcitabine because the neuropathy was really a big factor for her. She was getting lots of help from PT and OT and can walk a bit with a walker. But lack of mobility and dexterity have had a huge effect on QOL. Her appetite has actually improved and she has not had much nausea or other GI problems recently, but the neuropathy and overall weakness are definite issues, which she is still fighting and has stayed with her, even after stopping the Eribulin.
If you type ‘Eribulin’ in the search bar, you will find a number of longer threads that are fairly recent where others have shared their experiences as well. It does seem to be effective on tumor growth for many people, but like many of these meds, also can pose challenges in terms of side effects…at least for some patients. I will add that she lost her hair with the Enhertu but it started coming back pretty rapidly on the Eribulin and has continued to grow with Gemzar.
Good luck with your treatments!
Dave
I was on Halaven for over a year with hair loss and some neuropathy. Developed balance problems from the neuropathy. Went to neuro rehab and overcame some of problem. My tumor marker came into the 50’s and just stayed there. Since no more improvement, I changed ro Truqap.
Bonnie,
Thanks for your response. Can I ask what type of neuro rehab you were doing? My wife continues to have neuropathy that really affects our daily lives. No pain per se (thankfully) but just a lack of strength, feeling/sensitivity and dexterity in both her hands and feet. It is really limiting her mobility and her ability to handle even the most basic daily functions. We know it’s a roll of the dice on neuro improvement, so just curious if you have had some success?
Thanks for any info!
Dave
My primary doctor referred me to local hospital Neurological Rehabilitation service for balance problems. Medicare covered it. They focused on strengthening to get me stronger to help me balance better. Also did some balance exercises. I also had vertigo and they gave me exercises for that. I am better but neuropathy persists. What is she taking for the neuropathy? Good luck! Stay strong in Jesus.
