Hi there

There’s no proof that the budwig diet is effective in humans with cancer..most studies have been in the laboratory and a few on animals with promising results that’s all

The flax seeds are rich in phytoestrogens and I thought patients with oestrogen positive breast cancer are advised to avoid these?

I’ll stick to traditional treatments until something better comes along

My opinion

I agree! My onc says flax seed mimicked estrogen so stay away!!

Not true. Flaxseed is a phytoestrogen that occupies the place of estrogen that is stronger and more harmful. ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...

I follow a whole food plant based diet andnread all the evidence based science by Dr. Greger. Estrogen and phytoestrogen are different. After my initial DX of breast cancer 16 years ago, I avoided any 'estrogenic' food. Didn't do much good as it metestasized anyway. New science becomes available all the time.

As stated in the attached “flaxseed has a similar chemical structure as estrogen”

Because it is extremely beneficial for you. There are many studies on Pub med where you can research it. However, about the oil it must be very good quality. Do not take rancid, bitter oil. I order it direct from Barlean's a case at a time. If you have cancer and are financially stressed they reduce price. I'm paying 25 $ a quart bottle. I really think it has slowed down my tumors growth a lot. In fact while I was following my Budwig diet I had no growth in my tumors for about 9 months , then I made the mistake of buying Puritans Pride flaxseed oil and using that because the price was so low. Big mistake. It is refined and deodorized. Did not work. My tumors started growing again and I panicked and went on some other protocols and now I just eat the recipe once a day if that because we spent money on different stuff I have to take.. You mix 1/2 cup of cottage cheese with 3 tablespoons of oil and blend with stick blender, add 2 Tablespoons of fresh ground flax seed. ( It's very unstable and oxidizes in minutes, that is why the oil should always be kept in freezer. It stays liquid ) Add fresh fruit and then a teaspoon of honey or some other natural sweetener. It's really delicious.

yes, imagine my horror when I had been taking flaxseed oil a little over a year before my mbc diagnosis ... had no idea it was a phyto estrogen ... hope I said that right! <3 and hugs to all!

Well you weren’t to know..I think just a balanced diet is best

I had been drinking soya milk pre diagnosis and I’m sure that didn’t help as I know the cancer had been there years but nobody investigated my pain

I have a normal diet now with some extra vitamins/supplements which Have been approved by my oncologist

All the best to you

Thanks, Barb! I was in blissful ignorance since my BC in 2013, 8 lymph nodes removed, stage 3, 4.5 cm tumor with lumpectomy; clear margins and 30 radiation treatments and declined chemo; no problems for six years, although I had noticed I was tired all the time but just thought it was age and the couch potato syndrome. I turn sixty-five this month. If I hadn't sought treatment for my shoulder, who knows how long I would have gone without knowing. I was waiting for medicare to kick in, and it did March 1st, but an intervention happened when a woman ran a stop sign and hit me; that got me to the dr., had xrays, thought might as well get the shoulder xrayed while there and that's when my doc said there appeared to be a lesion on my shoulder and set me up for a bone-scan and ct and onc appointment. I'm sure I've said all this but just in case ... going tomorrow to see ortho and get xrays of femur since surgery; healing well and walking well now; only been 2 mos. since surgery, so I'm well pleased with that. sending hugs to you! God bless you and heal you, amen!

Here you can join a group who are very supportive and helpful with lots of info about it. Can't hurt to learn about it and see if it might be interesting. Never to my knowledge did Johanna Budwig experiment on animals. I have two of her books. She got many patients into remission and some were very advance cases.
