Taking ropinirol and Gabapentin together

Hi! Could anyone please advise me on if I can take Gabapentin and ropinirol together? My doctor prescribed me Gabapentin today so I’ve had 1x 300mg tablet but I was on 0.50mcg ropinirol which I need to come off, can I take the tablets together slowly reducing the ropinirol? Thanks for any advise 😊

The simple answer is yes, it's OK. It takes a few weeks for gabapentin to work and you may also have to increase the dose.

I also think you mean 0.5 mg (milligrams) ropinirole not 0.5 mcg.

Reduce it slowly in steps of 0.25mg or even 0.125mg about once every 2 - 4 weeks. You can cut the tablets. Be prepared to have some withdrawal effects.

Thankyou 😊 can’t wait to get off the ropinirol! I’ve been having nightmares and cold night sweats! And I still haven’t stopped eating! 🙈

Be careful, as I wrote previously you appear to have an Impulse Control Disorder, in which case withdrawal can be more difficult.

Hopefully the eating compulsion will fade, but it may take some time.

Yes you can. However 300mg of Gabapentin is too low to control RLS so you will need to ask your GP to prescribe 900mg ( the average dose for RLS).

As Manerva advises, reduce the Ropinirole slowly.

My sister has been on 300 mg Gabapentin for RLS for years and it works for her. I would suggest start out with a lower dose and see how it works. You may not need 600 or 900 mg.

Thanks for that info. I will make note of it. I haven't yet come across anyone controlling RLS on that low a dose, except where it's used alongside another low dose med.

I take both but have not reduced Ropinirole yet. Initially the Gaba helped the augmentation but didn't last long. Taking both wasn't an issue.

I am on withdrawal from ropinirole and taking 100 mg of gabepentin. It is enough to ease the pain in my legs enough so I can sleep. So far my withdrawal has been smooth going.

What mg ropinirol are you withdrawing from and how long have you done it over? If you don’t mind me asking

I was on 400 mg, and now on 375 mg for last 12 days.
