Opioid dosage

Hi friends

Last night I increased my slow release oxycodone codiene to 20 mg what a relief from 15 it made a massive difference from a pain and definitely calm legs

My question is this afternoon I had to take 7.5 mg of Endone fast acting at 4 pm to go to the movies

If I take 20mg oxy tonight and then went back to 15 mg the next night does playing around with it like that cause withdrawal or rebound .

A once off increase won't make a lot of difference or cause problems.

However, if you chop and change constantly, you will mess up your pain receptors.

If you need to increase the opiate dose temporarily, due perhaps, to a trigger, then it would be better to take a small dose of Paracetamol/ acetominofen. (250mg)That will potentiate the opiate effect, without long term effects.

If you find yourself needing to do this constantly, you should reassess your pain medication programme, with your pain consultant.

Dr Buchfuhrer recommends no more than 30mg equivalent of opiates for long term rls control.

Good luck.
