I was on avanza also known as mirtazapine , that antidepressant is a 3 in 1 , it's a appetizer , a sleeper and antidepressant. So there is a good chance the medication is gaining ur weight.

I think the best thing to do is talk it over with ur doctor, let him /her know how it's making you feel, and that the weight gain is making you more depressed

Thankyou x

I agree with julz about looking into that medication as the culprit for your constant eating and subsequent weight gain. Anti-depressants are another kettle of fish with all sorts of lovely side effects, aren’t they? I recently got off Stavzor, a medication that I noticed made me gain weight and gave me difficult losing it. Lo and behold those can be side effects, so now that I’m off of it I have noticed myself losing weight!

Good luck!

Mirtazapine is given to stimulate the appetite as well as used as an antidepressant. You can't just stop it you need to wean off slowly under a doctors supervision. Weight gain is unfortunately a common side effect although not everyone gains weight on it x

Not only did I gain weight taking Mirtazapine (prescribed to try to help my insomnia problem), I also found that RLS (then less severe than it is now) would start about an hour after I took it. I tapered myself off 45mg using half tablets and lower doses previously prescribed and went back to my doctor stating I was also worried not least about an insulin problem with my increased carb intake.
