HI, not sure what classes of meds you have tried before this, but that med is an antidepressant, also used for bladder incontinence. My sister, a nurse, was prescribed that for bladder issues, and we looked it up and it is a tricyclic, so is a drug that, if anything, could actually make your RLS worse. I have never heard in all my years of anyone using that for RLS. Just so you know, my sister tried it even after everything we looked up to test it out and her RLS went through the roof. Tricyclics usually do have this affect on RLS, there are always exceptions (disclaimer) ;), but in all my groups, not one person can take this med , never mind no one has been treated for RLS with this drug. Tricyclics are under the list of Drugs and Foods to Avoid on rlshelp.org on the treatment page if you would like to read about it. Also, the web site rxlist.com is the most detailed one with drug information. But, please keep that information in mind if you do start this med. Are you on any other meds at all for anything? I am actually very shocked that this med would even cross a doctor's mind to treat RLS. It is way off the approved list, and it is said not to sue this class of meds whenever possible if you have RLS on all the major RLS web sites.

I have found mirapex or also known as pramapexole works the best. There is also Sinnemet and requip. In canada that is what is always prescribed for parkinson and rls and works and has beem working for years. Alot of people also use gabapentin. Just worth a chance

and some of the most complete relief is the use of stronger narcotics.

Vicodin is a good one for the USA.. Hydrocodone is excellent.. for me,

I have to take Mirapex (the generic form) -- adding the narcotic brought

me nearly 100% relief but I built up a tolerance to it, became immune to

the max dose that my doctor would prescribe for it and now I am using

diet, dopamine..I am not successful today. My rls was bad through the

night and is just settling down right now..

I was reading up on this medicine just today. I took notes of it. It's a very

old drug.. as far as I can tell. I read that it was being used with some

success for nerve pain. and yes, I did see that it was related to some

bladder dysfunction. I think sometimes when patients explain to a doctor

what RLS feels like, the doctor hears pain and assumes that it's nerve

pain- then this drug is on the list for that.. but I too wonder why this drug was

brought up.

Do your legs actually hurt or have shooting pain?

Another interesting thing about this medicine is that it is sometimes prescribed

for people who sleep walk. I wonder if the doctor thought that you meant this

when you said that you have to get up and walk at night when RLS hits. (I don't

know how your conversation went actually) but I wonder if the medicine is

the right medicine for you. How is it working? Maybe by now you have tried it..

It's day 4 for you, Hows that working out for you? The medicine is new to most

of us, if not all of us. Keep me posted. I am very interested in the treatments.

Hi everyone, thank you to those who sent replies, I have had a lot of bad nights, not on anything at moment, had to finish my other meds and wait four days before I start these new meds, which I think is Tuesday next week, but, after reading your replies, not sure if I want to try them! Will keep you informed. Love the Teddy picture.
